The Filmoteca de Catalanuya is slowly reopening. At first on June 9th the Biblioteca del cinema started offering a loan service by appointment (Tuesday-Friday from 10 AM to 2 PM) and the David Lynch exhibition Dreams: Tribute to Fellini has been reopened and extended until August 30 (Tuesday to Friday, from 10 AM to 2 PM and from 4 PM to 9 PM; Saturdays and Sundays, from 4 PM to 9 PM).
The screenings will resume on the 26th of June in the two rooms of the Filmoteca de Catalunya, Chomón and Laya. The activity will be adapted to the new measures of restricted access and hygiene that have been implemented. During the months of July and August, there will be three daily screening, from Tuesday to Sunday, at 4.30 PM (Chomón), 7PM (Laya) and 8PM (Chomón), with reduced capaacity to facilitate distancing, numbered seats, priority for online sales and reinforcement of the cleaning and disinfection of the spaces between screenings.
The program includes some cycles interrupted by the lockdown, as well as tributes to important figures that have recently disappeared such as Anna Karina, Lucia Bosé, Michel Piccoli, Kirk Douglas, Ivan Passer and José Luis Cuerda and the Cinema Classroom cycle.
Some cycles that we would like to highlight are the following:
- Carta Blanca a Jaume Plensa is curated by one of today’s greatest Catalan visual artists. The selection includes movies like Touch of Evil (Orson Welles, 1958), The Big Sleep (Howard Hawks, 1946) and The Birds (Alfred Hitchcock, 1963).
- Carlos Reygadas. Retrospectiva includes six feature films of one of the most renowned filmmakers from Latin America. This retrospective is scheduled from the 16th to the 30th of July and will include his latest film, Nuestro tiempo (2018), and Post Tenebras Lux (2012), for which he received the award for best director at Cannes Film Festival.
- Els millors films de l’any 2019 includes a selection of the best movies of 2019, that has been created in collaboration with the Associació Catalana de la Crítica i l’Escriptura Cinematogràfica (ACCEC). The programming for this cycle will resume in August.
- To celebrate the closing of the David Lynch exhibition, on the weekends of August the Filmoteca will screen in the Sala Laya Twin Peaks: The Return. It will be an opportunity to see on the big screen what Cahiers du Cinema has named the best film of the last decade. On the last weekend of August to celebrate Fellini the Filmoteca will screen the interview that Joaquín Soler Serrano did to Federico Fellini in A fondo, the legendary Spanish television program of the seventies
