3 good news from Cineteca di Bologna

Thanks to the effort and the support from Comune di Bologna, three dreams are slowly becoming reality.

The new construction site in the area of the ex-parking lot Giuriolo will bring to life a new complex dedicated to film heritage and to the city of Bologna’s cultural heritage, something unprecedented in the world, thanks to the transformation of the spaces in the new headquarter. The new complex will host the film archive of Cineteca di Bologna (with more than eighty thousand titles and collections of immeasurable value) and the restoration laboratory L’immagine Ritrovata, considered to be a global reference point. There will new spaces open to the public and an area for open-air screenings.  This renovation fits into a project of redevelopment of the Bologna’s outskirts promoted by Piano Periferie per la città di Bologna.

Thanks to the institutional support from Comune di Bologna and Regione Emilia-Romagna Sotto le stelle del Cinema and Il Cinema Ritrovato will be able to return this year.
For the open-air screenings in Piazza Maggiore, Cineteca di Bologna is working on different hypothesis to make sure the screenings are hosted in the safest environment, suggesting a maximum number of one thousand spectators per screening. The program will be similar in length to the past years with more than 50 evenings, from July 4th to September 1st.

The XXXIV edition of Cinema Ritrovato will take place from the 25th to the 31st of August as an ideal peak of Sotto le Stelle del Cinema. The team of festival curators (Gian Luca Farinelli, Cecilia Cenciarelli, Mariann Lewinsky, Ehsan Khoshbakht) and the international scientific committee have been working for months to ensure a special and partly redesigned Cinema Ritrovato edition.
